I'm not sure what I was thinking, tackling my year of teaching during the pandemic as my first full podcast episode... I think it may be part of my processing the dumpster fire of a school year we just finished. This episode took me a while to put together - I kept remembering things to add to my notes and then needed to record it twice to get it just right. But... this is me. At my most vulnerable, sharing how this last year impacted me and how I hope it can help us all shape the future of education.
Here are some of my key takeaways:
The bad:
Masks - harder for me than the kids, but almost impossible to hear, speak and teach in... the emotional toll of not seeing faces all day long was literally depressing
Social Distancing - littles like to be close... to each other and to their teachers
Numbers - how many people are safe inside a classroom? why did this number change every few weeks? based on what?
Treatment of Teachers - we deserved (and still do) better
The good:
The kids.
I hope you'll take a listen and I'd love to hear what you think.
